My New Project

There is a quilt on my living room wall that isn't as interesting as most of the others - an early piece that I made in a log cabin workshop.

I've decided that it's time to replace it.  It's not a huge space to fill, roughly 4' square, and I plan to make a whole heap of 6" and 3" squares to fill it.

These are the first 12 that I've made - starting with the 6" ones.

These will form the outer ring, and are all based on blue batik fabrics.
It's fun to fire up the quilting software and choose some blocks to make.

Another 12 to make, then I'm on to making 64 x 3" blocks....

At a block a day, it's roughly a 100 day project!

Card Making

Starting with some neutrals and bits of lace and trim,  then adding decorative stitches.
And before you know it, its time to add some decorative stitching in a different colour (thank you Julia Gahagan for the ideas (I'm still using ideas from a sheet she gave us at a recent on line workshop!).

Then I cut the whole into pieces, added some wrapping paper from a gift that DD1 was given, andd made a set of cards - some for Easter, some for upcoming birthdays.

A great technique for card making, or even making mini quilts for display or pot coasters.

If you've got a few minutes and some scraps, why not give it a try too?

Happy Easter - and lucky me!

Too late for Easter greetings?  I hope not!

This was another make from a sew along with my miniature quilt group.  A larger than life sized egg.

Made with scraps, sewn together quickly with decorative stitches, and a binding and hanging loop to finish it.

You can see more of the quilting on the back.

Really fun to make!

And just a couple of weeks ago, I was lucky enough to win this 'Dimples' fabric roll from Creative Quilting in East Molesey - my local quilt shop!  If you enjoy using pre-cuts then get on down there now, and scoop up some of their lovely fabric rolls, they've got lots of variety at the moment.  I'm quite keen on getting one of their batik rolls too!

Thank you, Creative Quilting!

Travel Planning

My DD2 is planning a holiday with her friends once their A level exams are over.

I bought this 'destinations' fabric a few months ago, thinking that I might be able to make her some bits and bobs with it.

Its been a lot of fun so far!

As well as the Kismet pouch from last week, I've made the things shown here - a zippy pouch, covered notebook, flat purse, tissue pocket, and wristlet.

They are all inside this zip up tote bag (with patch and zippy pockets inside too).  All hidden until her birthday.

I know that she may in the end choose to take none of them - and that's fine - I've really enjoyed making them and I think that she will appreciate the thought!
